Poughkeepsie football falls, playoffs still within reach

Trevon Reid completed 12 of 20 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 38 yards and a score for the Poughkeepsie football team, but it came in a 44-24 loss to host Saugerties High School on Saturday.

Antawone West rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Pioneers (2-5). Ezakyle Smith caught a 57-yard touchdown and MoQuez Dickens had a 37-yard TD reception.

Reid, at linebacker, had 17 tackles and a forced fumble. Brian Creary made 13 tackles and Dickens had 10 stops.

Poughkeepse hosts Goshen at 7 p.m. Friday. With a win, Pioneers coach Matt Relyea said, they would qualify for the Section 9 Class A playoffs.

Rondout Valley 29, Pine Plains 12 — Hunter Parks ran for 146 yards and a touchdown in the loss for visiting Pine Plains.

Matt Beam threw for 105 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown to Dylan Lawless in the second quarter that pulled the Bombers within 13-12.

Evan Proper had a third-quarter interception for Pine Plains (1-5).

“We’re disappointed because this was a game we could’ve won, but we didn’t execute well enough,” Bombers coach Rob Scott said. “We have 13 underclassmen, so mistakes will be made. But the effort in this game was great, and I’m proud of that.”

Pine Plains hosts Highland at 7 p.m. Friday.
