SHENANDOAH – The Riverheads football machine made its latest stop in Shenandoah and rolled past Page County 63-15 Friday night in high school football.
The Gladiators scored early and often, posting six first-quarter scores to take a commanding lead from the start. Harrison Schaefer and Brett Hostetler each scored twice in the first period, and Riverheads took advantage of two Panther turnovers and converted them into scores to a 42-0 lead after one.
It steamrolled from there as the Gladiators added three more scores in the second quarter, and Riverheads had a very comfortable 56-8 lead at the break.
Hostetler paced the Riverheads ground game with 89 yards on three carries and two scores, Devin Morris added 58 yards on four carries and a score while Armstrong had three rushes for 54 yards and a score. Riverheads amassed 287 yards on the ground. Ethan Hizer paced the Panthers with 84 yards on 14 carries.
Armstrong completed 2-of-3 passes for 63 yards early in the first quarter.
“We wanted to throw the football and work on some things tonight,” Riverheads coach Robert Casto said. “Our quarterback can throw and we have receivers who can catch but we chose to run the ball. We like to run the ball and we do a pretty good job of it. All in all I thought our kids came out and did what they were supposed to do and the rest is history.”
Riverheads moved to 7-0 and will be home to host Wilson Memorial next Friday. Page fell to 3-4 overall.
