Roundup: Arabs rebound with home victory over Yucca Valley

After two consecutive games where the defense struggled to keep teams within reach, the Coachella Valley Arabs rose to the occasion Friday night at home against Yucca Valley for a 41-23 win.

Coach Brett Davis said quarterback Armando Deniz started shaky with the intense pressure the Trojans brought, and losing two of his biggest weapons Romeo Martinez and Jacob Salazar for much of the game due to injury didn’t help. Still Deniz recovered to account for five touchdowns – three through the air and two on the ground.

With just four minutes left and the Trojans trying to make a comeback, the Arab defense forced a turnover, and Martinez begged Davis to come back in and finish the game off, which he did with a 30-yard run.

“It’s a huge boost for us, and it was tough getting our guys to believe,” Davis said. “It was huge for our confidence, especially with the guys we had out. We were a skeleton crew out there at the end, and nothing will pump us up more than a win like this.”

The Arabs play next Friday at home against Desert Hot Springs.

Desert Christian Academy 56, Bloomington Christian 29: Quarterback Wyatt Snellenberger led the charge for the Conquerors, who took down No. 7-ranked Bloomington Christian at home to ensure another boost in the polls come Monday.

The Conquerors play next on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Palm Valley.
