Roundup: Coldwater soccer wins Interstate 8 Tournament

COLDWATER – The Division 2 eighth-ranked Coldwater boys soccer team was not satisfied with its Interstate Eight Conference regular season title, securing the league tournament trophy on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Marshall.

With the win, Coldwater improved on its school record for wins in a season at 18-2-1 overall. The Cardinals will play at the Charlotte District on Oct. 20, awaiting the winner of Marshall vs. Eaton Rapids.

Coldwater’s Balal Nasser made five saves for the shutout, and didn’t allow a goal in nine league games. Jonathon Brownell scored two goals, Mana Ahmed had a goal and an assist and Anas Asker had an assist.

With the loss, Marshall fell to 14-3-2 on the year. They next visit Eaton Rapids on Tuesday in the first round of the district tournament.


PENNFIELD 2, HARPER CREEK 1: The Panthers won in the silver bracket matchup of the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament.

Troy McNeil led Harper Creek with a goal, coming on an assist from Alvaro Sampedro, while Brandon Juliano made 12 saves in goal. Harper Creek visits Charlotte on Tuesday in the first round of the Division 2 district tournament.


COLON 3, LITCHFIELD 0: Colon swept the Southern Central Athletic Association (SCAA) matchup by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-16. Leading the Magi were Keagan Bower with six kills, Brooke Hinkley and Gretta Minor with five digs and three kills apiece and BRianna Vinson with six aces and 13 assists.

CLIMAX-SCOTTS 3, TEKONSHA 0: Climax-Scotts took this SCAA contest in three, winning 25-18, 25-8 and 25-9. The Panthers were led by Zenna Soule with nine kills and two aces, McKenzie Hennessy had seven kills, seven digs and three aces, Peyton Nabozny had five digs and two aces and Evelyn Lamb had six kills.

Tekonsha was led by Makayla Cole with six kills and nine digs, Alexis Newbold with four kills, nine assists and five digs, Maria Barron with 13 digs and Olivia Barron with 10 digs.

ATHENS 3, CENTREVILLE 0: Athens won this non-conference matchup by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16. Leading the Indians were Rachel Nobach with 15 kills and 10 digs, Aubrey Cole had 20 digs, Josie Lamson had 22 assists and five digs, Tayler Eutsey had 11 kills and 12 digs and Lexi Goss had five blocks, three kills and three digs.
