Roundup: Fossil Ridge football rolls; Rocky loses heartbreaker

Griffin Roberts threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Fossil Ridge High School football team beat Prairie View Friday night to improve to 5-2.

Roberts connected with Donovan Murphree for an 18-yard score in the second quarter, and the pair connected again in the fourth quarter for a 15-yard score.

Brandon Spraberry started the 21-point second quarter by running for a 20-yard touchdown, while Casey Knudson scored from 1-yard out. Griffin ran for an 11-yard score in the third quarter.

Fossil Ridge (5-2, 1-1 Mt. Elbert) hosts Denver East next Friday.

CASTLE VIEW 28, ROCKY MOUNTAIN 27, OT — The Lobos are still searching for their first win after dropping this heartbreaker. Rocky Mountain (0-7, 0-2 Mt. Wilson) led 21-7 at halftime, but Castle View (3-4, 1-1) stormed back, scoring 14 in the third quarter to tie the game.

Castle View received the ball first in overtime, scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Brayden Lucero. The Lobos quickly answered, scoring on their first play, a Jordan Yancey 10-yard run.

But there wouldn’t be a second overtime, as the extra point was blocked and Castle View escaped with the win.

Yancy scored two other touchdowns, a 1-yard run and a 16-yard reception from quarterback. Tyler Hyland. The senior quarterback also ran for a 13-yard score.

Rocky Mountain plays Arvada West on Thursday at French Field.


FRONT RANGE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS — Fossil Ridge’s Dylan Ko and Fort Collins’ Lauren Gregory each won individual titles at the race Friday in Northglenn.

Boulder won the boys league title with 47 points, while Fort Collins placed second with 58. Cameron Dimas finished second to Ko.
