Spackenkill High School’s Rachel Li and New Paltz’s Natalie Meyer and four local doubles teams will be competing for Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls tennis titles on Thursday.
Li knocked off top-seeded Bailey Kreschmer of Onteora, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in a quarterfinal of the MHAL tournament Tuesday at Bard College in Annandale. In another quarterfinal, Meyer beat Highland’s Emma DiLascio, 6-1, 6-1. Li will face Saugerties’ Mehal Mitra and Meyer will face Wallkill’s Emily Savage in Thursday’s noon semifinals. Finals will follow.
In doubles, four local teams will face in Thursday’s semifinals. Spackenkill’s Sarah McCall and Cynthia Ma will face teammates Leona Lau and Emily Ma. Cynthia, a junior and Emily, an eighth grader, are sisters. In the other semifinal, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Katrina Ackerman and Ashley Dolan will face Marlboro’s Emma and Grace Messenger. Spackenkill (10-0) won the MHAL team title this season.
All players who made the quarterfinals qualified for the Section 9 tournament, which will be held Oct. 18-19 at Match Point Tennis Center in Goshen. MHAL qualifiers for singles are Li, Meyer, Mitra, Savage, Kreschmer, DiLascio, Onteora’s Jackie Katz and Marlboro’s Brittany DeSantis. MHAL qualifiers for doubles are McCall and Ma, Lau and Ma, Ackerman and Dolan, Messenger and Messenger, Spackenkill’s Kourtney Kowalski and Madison Myers, Red Hook’s Julia Bemis and Dasha Latvis, Marlboro’s Michaela Kulpinski and Julie Truncali and New Paltz’s Hailey Mastro and Alexandra Nicholas.
Vanessa Jacobs had 22 digs as host Our Lady of Lourdes High School swept Roy C. Ketcham 25-15, 28-26, 25-23.
Jessica D’Auria had 16 kills and 15 digs for Lourdes (11-1). Ceara Giametta added 21 assists and 19 digs.
Brianna Rizzo had 27 digs for Ketcham. Courtney Friday had four aces, 11 digs and six kills. Meghan Eagleton had eight digs, one block and two kills.
Arlington 3, Haldane 2 — Amber Litchauer had 14 digs, nine kills and three blocks to lead visiting Arlington in a 25-21, 25-23, 16-25, 17-25, 25-17 win. Samantha Kops added 34 digs and an ace, and Michaela Sciacca had 10 assists, six digs and five aces, and Milli Allen had 11 assists, seven digs and three aces for the Admirals (4-6).
Brooke Vahos had 19 kills, six blocks and four aces, Willa Fitzgerald had six kills, four digs and five blocks, and Sophia Carnabuci had 29 assists for Haldane (8-7).
Millbrook 3, Pine Plains 0 – Kayla Gusikoff had 24 assists as host Millbrook swept Pine Plains 25-15, 25-15, 25-19.
Sam McKenna had 11 kills and seven aces for Millbrook. Brooke Babbitt had seven digs.
For Pine Plains, Ashley Starzyk had seven kills, four digs and two blocks.
Dover 3, Webutuck 1 – Ariana Ball had 31 assists, Euphenie Andre had 25 kills and Calise Henry added 14 kills as the host Dragons (5-6) beat the Warriors 31-29, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23.
For Webutuck (5-6), Barijana Caldas had 18 assists, Aliyah Caldas had eight aces and seven kills and Kristin Brennan had 11 kills.
Rondout Valley 3, Red Hook 1 – Erin O’Connor had 13 digs, but the visiting Raiders lost to the Ganders 25-20, 25-16, 14-25, 25-14.
Faith Christian Academy 3, Oakwood Friends 1 — Cheyenne Mathis had 17 service points and five kills to lead visiting FCA in a 25-17, 25-13, 22-25, 25-14 win. Eshaa Munder added nine kills and nine service points (6-1).
Sadie Norman had a goal and an assist while Cat Simmons scored and Courtney Conley had an assist for host Pine Plains in a 2-0 win over Section 2’s Coxsackie-Athens.
Pine Plains is 3-8-2.
