Roundup: Providence extends win streak to 15

Top-ranked Providence volleyball recorded its 15th straight victory Monday in the form of a 3-0 sweep (25-5, 25-12, 25-17) of Louisville Holy Cross, the 23rd-ranked team in Kentucky.

The Pioneers’ 15-game unbeaten streak dates back to Aug. 27 and includes 11 sweeps. Providence, No. 1 in the latest 3A coaches poll, improved to 19-2 with the win Monday.

Warriors rally for win over Bulldogs: Defending 1A state champion Christian Academy won its first set Monday, dropped the next two and rallied to outlast 4A No. 7 New Albany nonetheless, 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12), on the road. The Warriors — No. 2 in 1A — improved to 15-2 with the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 18-3. CAI’s win snaps a nine-game win streak for New Albany.

Jeffersonville tops North Harrison on the road: Jeffersonville volleyball earned a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-20) over host North Harrison Monday. Alexis Bassett had 16 kills and eight blocks for the Red Devils while Bri Cochran added 12 kills.

Pirates make it seven straight: Charlestown volleyball improved to 13-9 Monday with a 3-1 win (25-12, 13-25, 25-19, 28-26) over Austin. The past five wins for the Pirates have come on the road.

Warriors handle Panthers: Scottsburg volleyball swept Corydon (25-16, 25-12, 25-10) Monday to improve to 12-9. The Warriors have won four of their past five matches.

Hornets sweeps host Owls: Henryville turned in a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-7, 25-14) of Salem Monday to improve to 14-5 on the season. The Hornets have won six straight games.

Braves down Musketeers in three: Borden outlasted Eastern in its first two sets Monday and cruised in the third for a 3-0 sweep (26-24, 27-25, 25-18) of the Musketeers.

Boys tennis

No. 11 Floyd Central sweeps Madison in opener: Floyd Central, No. 11 in the latest coaches poll, cruised to a 5-0 triumph over Madison in the first round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament Monday. The Highlanders move to a meeting with No. 30 New Albany in the semifinals Wednesday.

Red Devils roll in HHC tournament opener: No. 19 Jeffersonville turned in a 5-0 win over BNL Monday in its Hoosier Hills Conference tournament first-round matchup. The Red Devils advance to a semifinal meeting with Columbus East on Wednesday.

Bradley Cross won comfortably 6-1, 6-0 at No.1 singles while Blake Winchell and Keith Asplund handled No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Jerid Inman and Trey Bottorff, along with Colby Kayrouz and Mathew Monroe cruised in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Pioneers unbeaten at Borden: No. 22 Providence tennis came away with a 5-0 win at Borden Monday to improve to 11-3 on the year. The Pioneers have won five straight matches.

North Harrison tackles Salem: North Harrison came away with a 3-2 win at Salem Monday. Cameron Higdon and Eldon Engleman, along with Ben Book and Zach Outcalt won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles while Salem forfeited No. 3 singles.

Corydon bests Clarksville: Clarksville tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to Corydon Monday. Clayton Schreck (No. 1 singles), Shaun Showalter  (No. 2 singles) and Max Glordan (No. 3 singles) picked up wins while Clarksville defaulted No. 2 singles.


New Albany girls blitz Madison: New Albany girls soccer tacked on 21 shots on goal and came away with a 4-0 win at Madison on Monday to improve to 7-4. The Cubs had just one shot on goal.

Providence girls soccer routs Corydon: Junior Hannah Hanlon recorded a hat trick and junior midfielder Olivia Dome and freshman forward Avery Stumler each added two goals as the Pioneers routed host Corydon 9-1 Monday. Providence is 8-4-1 on the year. Abi Miller scored for Corydon.

Henryville soccer slams Salem: Goals from Chris Buysman, Isaac Middleton, Hayden Viers and Alex Hensley nabbed goals to lift the Hornets to a 4-0 win over the Owls.
