Sixteen girls basketball teams from four different states will be making the trek to Sioux Falls this weekend for the second annual Edith Sanford Breast Center Girls Pentagon Classic.
The one-day, eight-game event gets underway Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on Heritage Court.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Those in attendance will receive a free pink Edith Sanford Breast Center rally towel at the gate.
The 16-team field includes Wynot (Neb.), which claimed its fifth Class D2 championship in the last six years last season. The Blue Devils are off to a 3-1 start in 2016-17.
Also coming in from Nebraska is Crofton, which has won five straight C2 championships and features a USD recruit in Monica Arens.
Iowa’s representative, No. 3 (Class 2A) Western Christian, also arrives in Sioux Falls at 3-1 on the year.
From Minnesota, Moorhead, St. Michael-Albertville and Worthington are all making the trip south to participate in the event.
The remaining 10 teams are all from South Dakota. Hanson, Avon, Parker, Dakota Valley, Aberdeen Roncalli, O’Gorman, St. Thomas More, Washington, Lincoln and Roosevelt round out the field.
Fun fact to know and tell: St. Thomas More coach Brandon Kandolin said the Cavaliers are planning to drive to Sioux Falls on Friday to watch their upcoming opponent, Moorhead (Minn.), play at Washington.
