Texas QB commit Sam Ehlinger meets new coach Tom Herman, immediately talks national title

Tom Herman has been the head football coach at the University of Texas for a total of four days, so it’s about time he met with the school’s four-star quarterback pledge in the Class of 2017. Luckily for Herman, Sam Ehlinger is a native of West Lake Hills, a tony suburb of Austin that is a 15-minute drive from Herman’s new office on campus (if that).

On Wednesday, either Herman or Ehlinger made that drive; it was unclear on social media traffic whether the pair met at Ehlinger’s house for an in-home meeting or in the football offices at Texas. What is clear is that Herman made an immediate impression on the young Texas gunslinger.

Here’s what Ehlinger Tweeted immediately after meeting with Herman:

National championship? That’s a bold claim from a very confident young man who, when healthy, has been one of the most explosive offensive players in the nation.

Of course, if Ehlinger’s premonition is to come true, he’ll need some help from other stud recruits, and if he’s to be responsible for that success, he may very well have to beat out incumbent starting quarterback Shane Buechele to earn a spot under center.

That doesn’t seem to be a worry for Ehlinger, who has never left any doubt that he was all-in with the Longhorns.
