Two local standouts announce college commitments

Providence’s Claire Rauck, a standout for the Pioneers’ girls basketball team, has verbally committed to Goshen College, per her Twitter account Tuesday morning.

The 5-foot-9 senior averaged a team-high 14 points, four rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.4 assists for the Pioneers, who went 21-8 last season and advanced to the semi-state finals. The guard/forward shot 41 percent from the floor.

Eastern’s Taylor Drury, an all-conference forward, also announced her commitment Tuesday. The 5-foot-10 post player is set to join the University of Indianapolis, per her Twitter.

Drury scored 23 points in a 51-35 win over Rauck and then-No. 1 Providence last season. The Pioneers avenged the loss with a two-point win over Drury and the Musketeers in the sectional championship.

Eastern opens the 2016-17 season at Crawford County on Nov. 5, while Providence opens its campaign at home against Lanesville on Nov. 8.
