VIDEO: Evidence of why Alabama commit Najee Harris is nation's top recruit

When you are the No. 1 recruit in the country, you do No. 1 recruit in the country things.

For Antioch (Calif.) running back Najee Harris, Friday night’s performance was his latest in a string of bruising masterpieces. The Alabama-bound Harris rushed for 261 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries in a 41-33 Antioch win over Rancho Cotate.

In doing so, he left some hits on defenders that will have them telling stories for years to come.

Harris, an American Family Insurance ALL-USA preseason selection, likely has a lot on his mind these days, what with random people knocking at his family’s front door and  Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh once animatedly declaring “You’re a beautiful young man!” And that’s just to name a couple of things a top recruit goes through.

For Friday night, he was able to put the distractions aside on his way to a big performance that included 184 second-half rushing yards after being held to “only” 77 in the first half.

At least two Rancho Cotate defenders got an up-close look at whether or not Harris is as beautiful as Harbaugh says.

In the spirit of “they don’t rebuild, they just reload,” this 6-foot-3, 225-pound (or 6-foot-2, 228-pounder “with bright eyes and an easy smile,” according to The Press Democrat)  running back has committed to play for Nick Saban at Alabama in the fall. Number and all, comparisons with 2015 Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry are inevitable.

On a positive note, your author has been on the receiving end of hits like this and lived to tell the tale. Here’s hoping there was an ample supply of ice available to Rancho Cotate defenders after the game.
