No. 7 Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) has six players on its roster from the state of Texas.
The Pilots’ participation in the 8th annual Thanksgiving Hoopfest last weekend in Duncanville, Texas, was like a homecoming.
Kentucky-bound forward P.J. Washington, brother Spencer Washington, Jack Schwietz and Reggie Chaney are all Frisco native. Chris Giles is from Dallas and Dillon Glendenning is from Plano. Findlay coach Paul Washington Sr. coached a travel team based in Texas for nearly a decade and was a high school assistant before moving with his family to Las Vegas in 2015. P.J. and Spencer are his sons.
On Friday, Findlay Prep outlasted No. 24 Westlake (Austin, Texas), 88-81 in overtime. A drive to the basket and kick out for a three-pointer by Westlake with three seconds remaining forced the overtime.
Washington had 26 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocks in stuffing the stat sheet against Westlake. Justin Roberts added 14 points, eight assists and five steals.
Saturday, Findlay beat North Crowley, 64-49, limiting North Crowley to 17 points in the first half. Donnie Tillman from Detroit had 17 points to lead Findlay and Reggie Chaney added 12.
“It was great for our Texas guys,” P.J. Washington said. “It was like a homecoming for us. It was good to see our families and all of our old friends. We had a blast and we came out with two big wins.”
