VIDEO: Shoving match between mascots in Idaho nearly incites a brawl

You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. You don’t spit in the wind. And apparently you don’t mess around with the caped mascot for the Rexburg (Idaho) Madison High Bobcats.

As Madison’s mascot spearheaded a rather raucous dance routine in the student section set to Moldovan group O-Zone’s “Dragostea Din Tei” — an absolutely ridiculous Romanian pop anthem — Pocatello (Idaho) Highland High’s Ram mascot playfully mocked this ritual.

The caped kid lightly shoved the Ram out of his way, the Ram shoved back and several Highland students stormed the court in retaliation, one of whom shoved the Ram to the ground, forcing a strong police presence to calm the crowd before a brawl broke out.

That last paragraph is basically one of the most ridiculous paragraphs ever written.

Thankfully, no animals were harmed in this experiment. Except for the Rams, I guess, who suffered a narrow 62-61 defeat at the hands of their Romanian pop song-loving rivals.

The Ram mascot was from Highland.  He never should have crossed over into the Madison side.  That being said, the Madison fans didn't need to overreact like they did by storming the court and pushing the Ram down.  Should have just brushed it off like the Bobcat mascot did.  Lot's of bad blood between these two teams lately.

But the guy in the goat costume is not a student, right? He's an adult/non-student dressed up, right?

@JoeAllen1 I have no idea about the guy in the Ram's costume.  All I know is that costume is fugly.  Pretty sure he walked in off the streets after some pagan ritual.

Can someone tell me if the guy dressed in the goat costume is a student at Highland?

@JoeAllen1 I spoke with a Highland fan who is a friend of mine.  He said the guy in the Ram costume is a student.  He also said he is a very nice kid, is in choir, and hangs out with his son, often at his home.  He said it was completely out of character, was not malicious in any way, but that the kid simply didn't think through what the consequences might be by crossing the center line into Madison territory.  I watched him at the state championship game in Boise last week.  He was very subdued and minded his own business.

It was actually a group of Madison students who stormed the court and layed out the ram...
