In the age of the one-handed grab, we’ve seen wide receivers, tight ends, running backs and defensive backs alike all getting their chance to say “Look, Ma! One hand!”
Rare is the instance, though, that a quarterback gets in on the act. They do the throwing. That’s where Lamar (Houston, Texas) senior QB Owen Holt begs to differ.
Watch in the above clip, as Holt sets up the action with his team trailing 7-0 in Friday’s Div. I-6A regional semifinal against Atascocita (Humble, Texas) at NRG Stadium. You can also see the clip at 1:24 here.
And for all that? The touchdown, pretty as it was, didn’t stand. No TD reception for Holt, who has committed to play for Harvard University next fall. He didn’t let the overturned TD keep him down, though, throwing a TD toss to Al’vonte Woodard soon afterward.
It ended up being a tough finish for Holt and Lamar in a 28-27 defeat. But Holt’s touchdown reception that wasn’t won’t leave the memory banks of those who saw it any time soon.
Coincidentally, Holt was not the only Harvard commit showing off his one-handed catching skills this weekend. San Angelo Central’s Adam West made the No. 2 play on SportsCenter’s Top 10 with this slick grab. Both will be suiting up for the Crimson next fall.
No word yet on whether there will be weekly one-handed catch competitions in Cambridge.
