If you weren’t already on the Donovan Peoples-Jones bandwagon, Friday night should have solved that. The 5-star Cass Tech (Mich.) wide receiver did absolutely everything in the first half alone against Pershing in a Detroit Public School League Playoffs matchup, as noted by USA TODAY High School Sports’ Tim Whelan:
Before halftime, the 5-star recruit Peoples-Jones had two punt returns for touchdowns, a touchdown reception, a touchdown pass and an interception.
Of those four scoring plays, one of Peoples-Jones’ punt return TDs was the most impressive, in large part because of what he did at the tail end. With smooth sailing into the end zone from there, the all-everything prospect decided to add a touch of flair to his effort, finishing the touchdown on a full front flip in the end zone, which he proceeded to land on his two square feet. The video of his sequence of electric first half scoring plays can be seen above.
Of course, Peoples-Jones was just one of a handful of Cass Tech standouts in a 62-0 whitewash to start the Public School League postseason. Still, his performance lived up to his talent based on his stats alone, and that’s before one considers the flip made for a little extra punch, and fun of course.
