It’s time to vote for The News-Press high school athlete of the week. Voting will close at noon on Thursday.

Nominees are derived from scores and stats called and emailed in by Lee County’s coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at 2 p.m.

Coaches can email scores to sports@news-press.com or call in scores at 239-335-0357. The deadline for each night’s results is 10 p.m.

On Thursday, The News-Press will unveil the Athlete of the Week on Snapchat and online. You can follow us on Snapchat at NPSports.

Here are this week’s nominees based on their performances between Sept. 12-17.

Football offense

Chris Curry, Lehigh, junior

Ran for 294 yards on 19 carries, including a 98 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and a 91 yard touchdown run in the second quarter. His efforts led the Lightning to their first victory of the season again Barron Collier 26-14.

Football special teams

Daniel Diaz, South Fort Myers

Some would say sending a sophomore placekicker with no game experience out for a 36-yard game winning field goal against a bitter rival is a surefire date with failure. South Fort Myers would disagree. Diaz came up the hero in the Wolfpack’s 18-16 win over Fort Myers on Friday by nailing the first field goal of his career. Talk about pressure.

Boys swimming

Jace Chouinard, Riverdale, freshman

The Raiders athlete won the 200-meter freestyle in 2:05.31 on Tuesday in a tri-meet against Evangelical Christian School and Dunbar, helping Riverdale to two wins.

Girls swimming

Madi Baron, Fort Myers, sophomore

Helped the Green Wave to a tri-match victory over Mariner and Ida Baker on Tuesday winning two individual events. She took the 200-meter medley relay in 2:13.03 and the 500 free in 5:20.88.

Boys bowling

Wyatt Smith, Island Coast, junior

Bowled the first 300 game in Lee County high school history in a match victory over East Lee County on Thursday. It is the fourth time he has achieved the feat in his career.

Girls bowling

Kaela Ruby, Cape Coral, junior

Ruby, a LCAC champion as a freshman, bowled a 236 game against Riverdale leading the Seahawks to a 3-2 match victory on Tuesday.

Boys golf

Shane Reynolds, Evangelical Christian School, senior

The Sentinels golfer hit a 1-under 35 on Monday at Stoneybrook Golf Club, finishing with the best overall round of the day during his team’s quad-match against Bishop Verot, Barron Collier and Estero.

Girls golf

Anna Chazal, Fort Myers, junior

Helped the Green Wave score two match victories, shooting a 2-over 38 against Bishop Verot at Stoneybrook Golf Club on Wednesday and a 4-over 40 against Cape Coral at Palmetto Pines Country Club on Thursday.

Volleyball

Kylee Whiteleather, Riverdale

Posted 43 kills over three matches in helping Riverdale to a 2-1 record for the week with wins over Cape Coral and Ida Baker.

Boys cross country

Evan Williams, Estero, senior

The Wildcats runner, a transfer from SFCA, finished fourth overall at the Mariner Invitational in 17:31, helping Estero claim a second-place team finish.

Girls cross country

Chelsey Oliver, Riverdale, junior

Oliver had quite the outing at the Mariner Invitational, running a personal record 20:22 to go along with a second-place finish overall.
