Varsity Insider Week 3 Player of the Week —
Jack Guida, Brewster: I can’t imagine that we’ve had many weeks — if any — where a player rushed for 361 yards and five touchdowns and another one scored five TDs in the area’s biggest game to date and neither of them win the player of the week. However, this is that week and I’m not sure there’s even much of an argument here. Guida could not be more deserving.
Week 3 Coach of the Week: Paul Santavicca, Port Chester
Week 3 Scoreboard: Results from Sept. 16-17
Guida, one of our 2016 Super 11, was the slam-dunk winner of Week 3’s top honor after delivering the stuff of legend in Brewster’s 56-49 victory last Friday. Playing on the road at 2-0 Hen Hud, his team fell behind 39-21 in a wild shootout, but Guida led the Bears all the way back. The converted running back had the best passing day of his career, connecting on 12 of 18 for 276 yards and two scores, including a 68-yarder to Derek Diaz. He then totaled 273 yards rushing and a whopping six touchdowns on 24 carries. That results in this: 42 plays for 549 yards and eight touchdowns.
Even for most good high school players that’s a full season of work, but Guida appears to be just getting started. He has Brewster sitting at 3-0. He’s already rushed for 610 yards and 11 touchdowns and has topped 100 yards rushing in all three games. The Ivy League recruit — who plans to visit Princeton next month — has actually accounted for 14 total touchdowns. He also returned an interception for a TD Week 1. It’s was one of three turnovers he’s forced this season on defense.
