West Salem, Sprague runners place at BorderClash

West Salem senior Ahmed Muhumed placed eighth overall and was Oregon’s No. 2 finisher at the 2016 BorderClash XC Meet held at the Nike World Headquarters on Nov. 20 in 15:52.

Sprague junior Kaylee Mitchell placed 54th of 87 competitors in the girls with a time of 19:59.

Winter sports

The first games for winter sports are Wednesday.

Among the games on Wednesday, West Salem’s boys basketball team plays at Corvallis at 7 p.m., Dayton’s boys host Portland Adventist Academy at 7:30 p.m., Blanchet Catholic’s boys host Taft at 7:30 p.m. and Central’s girls basketball team hosts Gresham at 7 p.m.

Among area teams that are defending state champions, Silverton’s girls basketball team hosts Tigard at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Kennedy’s girls basketball team hosts Portland Christian at 5:30 p.m., and South Salem’s girls play Southridge at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Sheldon High School in Eugene in the Luke Roth Tip Off Tournament.
