In her first start of the year, Kirsten Ranswill earned the pitching victory for Desert Christian Academy in a 14-3 varsity softball win over Temecula Valley.
Ranswill allowed five hits and walked one while striking out six in the six-inning complete game effort.
Offensively, Desert Christian scored four runs in the first inning and added six hits and five runs in the second inning. Kaylee Espinoza was 3-for-4 with a solo home run while Harmony Kocis added a three-run home run, a home run that ended the game for the Conquerors.
Abby Wagner had three hits, two stolen bases and four RBI for Desert Christian, while Ashley Klopfenstein had two hits including a double and a triple. Ranswill added two hits and three runs scored.
Xavier 197, Coachella Valley 238: In a non-league match, the Saints were led in the victory by Caesar Cheng’s 2-under 34.
Chris Quagliani added a 36 for Xavier, followed by Stone Van’s 38 and Matt Otten scored a 41 in the win. Xavier is 7-0 for the season and 4-0 in league.
For the Arabs, Alfredo Bazua fired a 45, Jesus Zavala and Ivan Garcia scored 47 each and Izaiha Lucas added a 49.
Rancho Mirage 7, Coachella Valley 2: In the De Anza League season opener, the Rattlers were led by pitcher Henry Dougherty, who threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up two unearned runs to earn the win.
Coachella Valley held the Rattlers scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Rattlers scored three runs followed by three more runs in the fifth inning.
Ranho Mirage had 11 hits, with Michael Macias and Carl Franco each driving in two runs.
The Rattlers go to 2-1 overall (1-0 in DAL). Their next game is Wednesday against Desert Hot Springs.
