Roundup: Indio ends baseball tourney on high note

The Indio baseball team picked up a solid road win Saturday afternoon over Summit 7-4 to finish off the Chino Tournament on a high note. At the plate, Daniel Torres led the Rajahs, going 4 for 4 with three runs scored, along with Jason Leon’s day of 4 for 4 with two RBIs. Emiliano Torres went 2 for 5 also.

On the mound, Erik Burciaga picked up the win, throwing five innings while recording five strikeouts and giving up four hits and two runs.

Indio plays next at Rancho Mirage on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Xavier Prep 11, Rancho Mirage 4: Ryan Van Meeteren picked up the win for the Saints, throwing five innings while striking out six batters and giving up two earned runs.

Van Meeteren led the way at the plate for Xavier Prep, going 3 for 3 with a double and an run scored. Daniel Connelly followed, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run, while Ben Wysard went 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs.

Desert Mirage: Junior Robert Ayala won the high jump at the Aztec Invitational at Palm Desert High School with a winning leap of six feet.
