Roundup: Knights rally to defeat Indians

Chucky Bautista entered the gave for Shadow Hills with his squad trailing by four runs, yet 3 2/3 innings later he had led the Knights to a 6-5 victory over Palm Springs in an explosive Desert Valley League baseball game on Friday.

Bautista gave up two hits, but no runs. Offensively, the Knights were led by Alex Bejjani with three hits and three runs. Kevin Morden and Christian Wisler had a pair of hits each and two runs apiece. JD Lang had a pair of hits and three RBI.

The Knights (10-2, 3-1 DVL) scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory.

Swimming

Indio Boys Swim defeated Cathedral City 78-47. Leading the Rajahs was senior captain Markus Clipper with first place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Other first place finishers include Juan Nava in the 500 freestyle and Anthony Bautista in the 100 Backstroke. The 200 medley relay team of Anthony Bautista, Markus Clipper, Luis Aceves and Juan Nava also finished first for the Rajahs.

Second place finishers include: Anthony Bautista in the 200 Freestyle, Juan Nava in the 50 Freestyle, Jesus Zepeda in the 100 Freestyle, and Jesus Valadez in the 100 Backstroke. The Rajahs face palm springs next Thursday in DVL.

Softball

La Quinta 18, Xavier Prep 1: Kiara Mendoza, Luisa Velasquez and Kayla Ceballos each scored three runs, and Alexis Appleyard struck out seven while allowing three hits and a run in five innings to lead the Blackhawks in the win over the Saints. La Quinta moved to 13-2 overall and 2-1 in the Desert Valley League.

Shadow Hills 8, Palm Desert 7: The Knights benefited from key hits by Amy Ibarra, Alyssa Rios, Rebbeca Sanchez and Alexia Terraza and the pitching of Nicole Rodriguez for the win.

Leading Palm Springs was Davia Hines with three hits. Sarah Martin, Alyssa Ayala, Cristina Moreno, Ashley Ennis and Raquel Harris each contributed with two hits each.
