In eight seasons as coach of the Haslett boys diving team, Bruce Foster has relied on one motto.
“I’ve always said, let’s make diving fun and see what we can do with it,” Foster said. “I want the kids to get in there and not feel pressure, so much that they enjoy the meet and they enjoy success.”
Foster’s team enjoyed plenty of success this year as the Vikings finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 team record and had three divers place in the top 16 at the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state finals.
Haslett took 14th place overall at states and Foster was honored as the Division 3 state meet co-coach of the year.
“The most noticeable thing for me this year was how much fun this season was for my guys and how excited they were about diving,” Foster said. “All of these guys reached their goals and then went way past them.”
The Vikings will try and continue their success in years to come and build on a diving season that certainly was a memorable one.
“This was a banner year for this entire program,” Foster said. “We want to continue to succeed and have fun, but at the same time, we are always just looking to grow our sport and then the better we all are.”
