When Wes-Del boys basketball coach Joel Roush said the score, the relief came through in his voice.
After 18 consecutive losses, a streak going all the way back to Jan. 14, the Warriors finally have another win in the calendar year to celebrate.
Wes-Del (1-7) earned a 62-49 victory against Daleville at home Saturday night. Their last win back in January came against those same Broncos.
The Warriors led by only four points at halftime, and their advantage shrank to one by the end of the third quarter. Then Wes-Del took control with 24 points in the final quarter.
Wes-Del’s Sam Paul poured in a game-high 27 points, connecting on five 3-point shots. Trevor Delaney added 13 for the Warriors, who played their last game before winter break. Jarred Riddle and James Tungate each scored 12 for the Broncos (2-4).
The Warriors did much of their damage at the free-throw line, connecting on 13 of 19 attempts after drawing 19 Bronco fouls.
