Runner of the Year – Sibby Hanson, Arlington
Vital stats: Hanson won the New York State Federation Championship with a time of 16:00.7 on the 3.1-mile course at Bowdoin Park and finished second in the Section 1 Class A race in 15:54.63. He also emerged victorious at the Section 1 Coaches Invitational with a time of 16:12.65, and came in sixth in the Class A state championship with a mark of 15:46.5.
Quotable: “He’s a force to be reckoned with,” Arlington coach Steve Arnett said. “He’s the Federation champ, which is a first for me and I’ve had some great runners. He’s been nothing short of spectacular. He’s the best runner I’ve had. He’d do well on any all-time list.”
School: Red Hook
Vital stats: Dwyer-McNulty finished second at the Mid-Hudson Athletic League Championship with a time of 16:33.50. He bested that time with a mark of 16:17.8 to finish 14th in the Class B state championship. The senior also placed 53rd at the New York State Federation Championship with a time of 16:56.5
Quotable: “It was a magical season,” Red Hook coach Greg Rafferty said. “Last season he struggled with an Achilles injury and this year he felt really well. He just kept getting better and better as the season went on. His training was spot on.”
Vital stats: Jorgensen finished second in the Section 1 Class C Championship with a time of 16:36.65 and came in third in the state Class C race in 16:12.3. He placed 11th at the New York State Federation Championship with a mark of 16:29.8 and second at the Northern Counties meet in 16:30.52.
Quotable: “Matt had an incredible season,” Pawling coach Jack Power said. “Every race he’s run this season, he’s been progressively improving. He’s probably one of the most consistent runners in the area. He ran a really fast race at the federation so he’s definitely one of the top runners in the area.”
Vital stats: Langone finished 13th at the state Class C race, with a mark of 16:42.9. He also placed fifth in the Section 1 Class C Championship (17:05.09) and the Section 1 Coaches Invitational (17:23.24).
Quotable: “Kevin improved by over two minutes from last year,” Power said. “He would definitely have to go down as the most improved runner in the entire area. He’s really not had a bad race all season, and had really turned into one of the top returning runners in the state of New York.”
School: New Paltz
Vital stats: Mazzuca won the MHAL Championship with a mark of 16:26.41 and also claimed the Section 9 Class B Championship with a time of 15:46.12. He placed fourth in the state Class B race with a final time of 15:58.9.
Quotable: “He had a great year and was arguably the best runner in Section 9,” New Paltz coach Glen Eckert said. “His work ethic really helped him achieve this year. He was a great leader. He always took time out to work with the younger kids.”
Vital stats: Ryley placed 23rd in the Class A state championship with a time of 16:13.0 and came in 31st at the New York State Federation Championship in 16:45.2. The senior also came in fifth in the Section 1 Class A Championship in 16:55.48.
Quotable: “The thing that makes him special is that he’s a beast,” Arnett said. “He gives you everything he’s got. He’s a demonstrative leader. The way he competes it wouldn’t matter if it’s checkers or cross country, he’s got the same personality toward everything. He’s non-stop energy.”
Vital stats: Sander won the Section 9 Class C Championship with a mark of 16:12.02. He had his best time of the season at the state Class C race, coming in 11th with a time of 16:36.1. Sander also finished sixth in the MHAL Championship in 17:07.59.
Quotable: “He started off this season wanting to qualify for the state championships as his No. 1 goal and he made it,” Dover coach Matt Pool said. “He started off the season injured and he slowly kept getting better and stronger as the season went on. He peaked at the right point, winning the Class C championship. The bigger the race, the better he is.”

Vital stats: Power’s team won a prestigious twofer of the state Class C title and the Section 1 Class C Championship.
Quotable: “It was really a team effort,” Power said. “They won because they were a team. We did have good leadership up front but we were solid all the way through our seventh man. Many times at the big level it’s those fourth or fifth runners on your team who will determine whether you’re going to win or not.”
