Seven Rutherford County soccer players earned Tennessee High School Soccer Association all-state honors this past week.

Four Siegel High players, two Oakland players and a Smyrna player were honored by the coaches association.

Samford commitment Dale Steinagle, Austin Peay commitment Emily Anderson, Meredith White and Isabella Oviedo all were named to the team from Siegel, which reached the TSSAA Class AAA championship game this season before falling to Brentwood.

Steinagle, a senior, posted 11 shutouts at goalkeeper this season after missing the first couple games due to mononucleosis. Anderson, a defender, scored six goals and three assists. Oviedo, a midfielder, tallied three goals and three assists. White, a defender, had 1 goal and an assist.

Forward Lindsey Rose and midfielder Jordan Simpson each were named to the team from Oakland. Rose had a team-high 21 goals and five assists for the District 7-AAA semifinalist. Simpson added six goals and four assists.

Smyrna senior Holly Vetter was named to the team as a forward. Vetter had four goals and 18 assists for the Lady Bulldogs, which reached the District 7-AAA semifinals.

Six named to all-star game

Six Rutherford County football players have been named to the TACA all-star football game scheduled for Saturday at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium in Cookeville.

Siegel placed three players on the roster in quarterback Brent Stockstill, wide receiver Tae Martin and defensive end John A. Simpson.

Stockstill finished with 2,690 yards passing and 32 TD passes along with 653 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs. However, Stockstill likely won’t play in the game after sustaining a torn ACL in the Class 6A state quarterfinals. He did play in the state semifinals with the injury.

Martin caught 52 passes for 1,048 yards with 14 TD receptions. Martin also had 130 yards rushing and two TDs. Simpson was a key pass rusher for the Stars this season.

Riverdale placed quarterback Dillon Woodruff and linebacker Scottie Boykin on the team. Woodruff threw for 1,306 passing yards with 500 rushing yards. Woodruff was originally selected to the team as a safety.

However, with Stockstill’s injury it’s not known if Woodruff could be moved to quarterback. Boykin recorded 165 tackles with three forced fumbles this season.

La Vergne senior David Emmanuel was also chosen. Emmanuel had three interceptions this season.

All-Star appearance

Three Rutherford County soccer players recently competed in the THSSCA all-star game played at Hendersonville.

Anderson, Steinagle and Vetter all represented the county for the East team. The West team won the game 5-0.
