Here is this week’s American Family Insurance All-USA Northeast Ohio Top 5 Performances of the Week!
Number 5: We start with the Division II playoff game between Chardon and Aurora. Aurora quarterback George Bollas drops back to pass and then takes off, breaking through the line and past the defense for the score to give Aurora the 13-0 lead. Bollas would tally four rushing touchdowns on the night, and the Greenmen won 34-14 to advance.
Number 4: We go next to the Division IV regional final contest between Kirtland and Youngstown Ursuline. Kirtland quarterback Scott Eilerman takes off around the end and pulls away. Watch this stretch at the goal line to complete the 37-yard touchdown! Kirtland takes the lead 32-31 and goes on to win by the final score of 38-37.
Number 3: Now, we head to the Division I matchup between Mentor and St. Ignatius. There are 11 seconds left in regulation and the Wildcats are down 7. St. Ignatius quarterback Michael LaManna goes back and throws a deep pass to Mike Siragusa in the back of the end zone for the 19-yard touchdown to force overtime with the score deadlocked at 35. What a catch!
Number 2: We go back to Kirtland and Ursuline. Ursuline is lining up for a two-point conversion for the win. Quarterback Chris Durken takes it around the end, but is stuff by Kirtland’s defense. Kirtland prevails, 38-37!
Number 1: Back to Mentor and St. Ignatius. Now in the third overtime, Mentor goes for the two-point conversion and the win, after knotting the score with a touchdown. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky rolls left and finds Brandon Fritts in the end zone to give the Cardinals the dramatic 57-56 victory.
