American Family Insurance All-Arizona Performances of the Week (Nov. 9)

Taking a look at the top performances in Arizona high school football for Friday, Nov. 9.

Nick Henderson, Glendale Joy Christian, QB, Jr.: Henderson had his hand in all eight of his team’s touchdowns, passing for seven and running for one in a 60-24 victory over Pima that gave Joy Christian its first Division VI, eight-man state championship. Henderson completed 22 of 34 for 387 yards.

Mauriece Lee, Tempe Marcos de Niza, RB, Sr.: He carried 20 times for 324 yards and four TDs in a 49-36 Division II quarterfinal win that eliminated three-time defending state champion Scottsdale Chaparral. Lee scored on runs of 80 and 48 yards on two of the first three times he touched the ball.

Johnny Pena, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, RB, Sr.: He ran for 215 yards and three TDs on 23 carries in Salpointe’s 35-7 D.II quarterfinal victory over Marana Mountain View.

Anthony Braunreiter, Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge, RB, Sr.: He ran the ball 25 times for 204 yards and two TDs in a 42-30 victory over Glendale Apollo in the D.II quarterfinals.

Sawyer Lung, Goodyear Desert Edge, QB, Sr.: He completed 15 of 28 passes for 310 yards and four TDs, rallying the top-seeded team from a 21-3 halftime deficit to a 38-35 victory over two-time defending D.III state champion Scottsdale Saguaro in a quarterfinal.

Matt Guida, Queen Creek, RB, Jr.: Guida ran for 286 yards and two TDs on 31 carries in his team’s D.III 28-17 quarterfinal win over Phoenix Thunderbird.

Brian McCarty, Nogales, RB, Sr.: He caught eight passes for 195 yards and two TDs, helping Nogales reach the state semifinals for the first time in school history in a 22-8 D.III quarterfinal win at Peoria Sunrise Mountain.

Dominique Fenstermacher, Tempe Marcos de Niza, DB, Jr.: He intercepted three, second-half passes in his team’s 49-36 D.II quarterfinal win over Scottsdale Chaparral. He also had nine tackles.

Jalen Ortiz, Peoria Centennial, RB, Sr.: He carried only 10 times for 108 yards and two TDs in a 46-0 D.II quarterfinal rout of Goodyear Millennium.

Ryan Bresnahan, Chandler Seton Catholic, QB, Sr.: He came off the bench in the second quarter, passing for 291 yards and four TDs, rallying Seton to a 28-21 D.IV quarterfinal victory over Cottonwood Mingus.

Skyler Hill, Lakeside Blue Ridge, QB, Sr.: He passed for 80 yards and ran for 114 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in his team’s 49-0 rout of River Valley in the D.IV quarterfinals.
