It was a wild and crazy, back-and-forth between Auburndale and Tomahawk on Friday night.
Auburndale went into its bag of tricks to pull out the double overtime thriller 40-34.
Isaac Castellano snared a 15-yard halfback pass from Canyon Weiler, after Weiler took the pitch from quarterback Blake Anderson, pulling up the Tomahawk defense. That left Castellano behind the defense and gave Auburndale the win.
Tomahawk had a chance to win the game in regulation, as Austin Bellile connected with Eddie Yirsa for a 48-yard touchdown, knotting the game at 34-34. Tomahawk, however, missed the extra point.
On its two possessions in overtime, both of Tomahawk’s drives ended in fumbles inside the 10-yard line.
“It was a great high school football game right out of the block, game one. It was a great game for the fans,” Tomahawk coach John Larson. “I thought both teams left everything out on the field. We have come a long way from last season when we lost to Auburndale 55-14. Bottom line special teams and turnovers in overtime sealed our fate.”
