Appleton North 3, Slinger 1

At Appleton, the Lightning fell behind early in the second half but goals by Charles Sauve, Michael Hansen and Gunnar Springer rallied Appleton North.

After a scoreless first half, dominated by the Lightning, Slinger came out fast.

“They scored 11 seconds into the second half,” North coach Nate Werner said. “We were completely on our heels and weren’t prepared. We completely outshot them in the first half. We just didn’t finish. Once they got the goal, honestly, I think that’s what we needed to get going.”

North outshot Slinger 15-4 with Trent Beilke making three saves in net for the Lightning.

At Neenah, the Rockets scored three goals in the final ten minutes of the first half to break open their match against the Golden Beavers en route to winning the regional title.

Trevor Brost put Neenah ahead 1-0 when he scored in the fifth minute. Adam Pohlman, David Bacon and Tylor Rosera scored the final three goals of the first half when Neenah went up 4-0.

At Kimberly, Sam Lamers and Henry Simon scored second-half goals to propel Kimberly to the regional title.

Simon also scored a first-half goal for the Papermakers, who will take on Pulaski in a sectional semifinal Thursday.

Little Chute 2, Winneconne 1

At Little Chute, Ben Luitjens scored in the seventh minute of the second overtime to lead the Mustangs to the win over the Wolves.

Luitjens scored the goal off an assist from fellow defender Matt Vandenberg.

Little Chute had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half on Tyler Coenen’s 70th career goal.

Division 3

Howards Grove 2, St. Mary Central 1

At Howards Grove, the Tigers rallied for two second-half goals to eliminate St. Mary in a Division 3 regional final.

“We had good possession in the first half, but didn’t control the ball well in the second half,” said St. Mary coach Gary Kruger, whose team finished at 13-8-2. “Howards Grove did a nice job of pressuring the ball in the second half.”

Bruce DeCoursin scored the Zephyrs’ lone goal.
