Appleton North and Neenah both advanced a player to the second round of singles competition at the WIAA Division 1 state tennis tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Thursday.
Appleton North’s Kelly Stymiest defeated Emily Oberwetter of Middleton 5-7, 7-6 (2), (8) to advance to today’s second round, where she will face fifth-seeded Emily Kolbow of Arrowhead at 8:30 a.m.
Neenah’s Jenny Price moved on to the second round with a 4-6, 7-5, (5) win over Sadie Spahn of Brookfield East. Price will face Mardee Merar of Homestead at 10:30 a.m. today.
Katherine Ake of Neenah dropped her first-round match, falling to Nicole Meylor of Wauwatosa West 4-6, 7-6 (2), (8).
Neenah’s doubles team of Katherine Bosio and Emily Glassco dropped their first-round match to Arrowhead’s Abby Kolbow and Kalie Flesch 6-4, 6-3.
Xavier’s doubles team of Grace Flaherty and Marissa Walsh defeated Nora Jandali and Christina Dudley of The Prairie School 6-3, 6-3 to advance.
