Newark hosting fundraiser basketball game

The Newark Athletic Boosters will be hosting the Harlem Wizards on their 50th Anniversary Tour.

The Wizards will play against Newark City School staff members, as well as other local dignitaries, at 7 p.m. Monday in Jimmy Allen Gymnasium. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 general admission in advance. and $10 for students and $12 general admission at the door. Tickets can be purchased in the athletic office from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

There will be at least one person from each of the Newark City Schools participating in the event, including Superintendent Doug Ute and Principal Mark Fullen. Newark Mayor Jeff Hall also will be participating, as well former Newark coach Gary Walters.

There also will be several former Newark basketball players participating in the game.

Newark Catholic selling football tickets, having pep rally Thursday

Newark Catholic is selling advance tickets for its Division VI regional semifinal from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. through Thursday and 8 to 10 a.m. Friday.

Advance tickets cost $7, and all tickets at the gate will be $9. A portion of the pre-sale proceeds will go back to the school.

A pep rally will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school. Tickets for the game also will be on sale during the pep rally.

The Green Wave play Glouster Trimble at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sheridan.

Johnstown selling football tickets

Johnstown is selling advance tickets for its Division IV regional semifinal from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m. today, and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday at the high school. Tickets also will be sold from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the middle school.

Advance tickets cost $7 and tickets at the gate will be $9. A portion of the pre-sale proceeds will go back to the school.

On-site parking also will cost $2 per car.

Johnstown seeking baseball coaches

Johnstown is in need of a variety of baseball coaches for the upcoming spring. The Johnnies are searching for an assistant JV coach and coaches for their seventh- and eighth-grade teams.

Junior ‘Cats set tryouts

The Newark boys basketball program’s Junior ‘Cats is having tryouts Sunday in the auxiliary gym at the high school.

Fourth-graders are from 1 to 2 p.m., fifth-graders from 2 to 3 p.m. and sixth-graders from 3 to 4 p.m.

There is no cost, and teams will play against other teams in central Ohio.

Participation in the Newark Boys Basketball League is $25 and must be done before Sunday.

Teams will be separated by school.

Wildcat Wrestling club

The Biddy (K-6th grade) and middle school (7th and 8th grade) wrestling programs still are accepting registrations.

Cost is $50 per wrestler. Practice for youth will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Practice for middle school will be Monday-Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Both will have some Saturday practices.

Wrestlers will compete in the Middle school Ohio Capital Conference and the Licking County Youth Wrestling League. Registration will be open for the next two weeks. For questions, call coach McClain at 740-405-3076, coach Wade at 740-644-1428 or coach Martinez at 614-325-1090.

Licking Valley Meeting/drug testing

There will be a mandatory winter sports OHSAA meeting for all winter athletes who did not play a fall sport and a parent at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 in the LVHS auditorium

Drug testing for all winter athletes who did not play a fall sport will be at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 15 in the LVHS commons area.

Sheridan Alumni Game

Sheridan High School will be playing an alumni basketball game Nov. 23. Any graduates interested in playing should contact Coach Booth at or 740-743-1335 to sign-up.
