Boys basketball: Tigers take title

FULTON, Ind. – Hagerstown is still undefeated, and the Tigers have a title now, too.

Hagerstown claimed the championship of the Caston Shootout by stopping Kankakee Valley 56-54 in the final. The Tigers also topped Lowell 64-52 in Saturday’s semifinal round.

Hagerstown’s Thorin Stage was tournament MVP, and he was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Bryan Mathews.

“It was the best team ball that we’ve played up to this point of the season,” said Hagerstown coach Bobby Jones. “We just had different guys step up all three games.”

Hagerstown (8-0) plays host Dec. 29 to Seton Catholic.

Boys basketball: Bethel downs National Trail

NEW PARIS, Ohio Bethel jumped to a 17-point halftime lead Saturday night and handed National Trail its seventh consecutive loss, 59-45.

Travis Williams led the Blazers with 14 points, while Devin Mize added nine and Corey Harmon eight.

The Blazers (0-7) play Twin Valley South next Friday in the Preble Shawnee Holiday Tournament.

Girls basketball: Patriots still unbeaten

NEW MADISON, Ohio – Tri-Village had three score in double figures Saturday as the Patriots remained unbeaten with a 68-32 win over New Breman.

Krystal Falknor netted 15 points to lead Tri-Village, while Shaye Thomas scored 11 and Teha Richards added 10.

The Patriots (9-0) travel Thursday to Miami East for a key CCC matchup. Miami East is the defending champion and Tri-Village won the outright title in 2010-11

“They’ve only lost one game,” Tri-Village coach Brad Gray said of Thursday’s opponent. “I am sure they’re going to be hungry. Our kids are going to be hungry.”

Girls basketball: Indians win

ANSONIA, Ohio – Brittany Osborne scored 15 points Saturday as Union City knocked off Ohio foe Ansonia 45-35.

Jessica Pollitt and Reagan Bradbury each added 10 points for the Indians, while Raelynn Mills grabbed 10 rebounds.

Union City (5-7) returns to action Jan. 3 against Monroe Central in the Randolph County Tournament.

Girls basketball: Falcons split

FRANKFORT, Ind. – Winchester split during Saturday’s Frankfort Tournament

The Falcons were edged 66-65 by Northwestern, then won the consolation game 60-50 over Bellmont.

Jill Morrison scored 48 points on the day for Winchester (10-1), which plays Yorktown next Saturday at New Castle.

Wrestling: Falcons 2nd

Winchester placed second at Saturday’s ECIC meet.

The Falcons tallied 183 points to finish behind champion Jay County. Wes-Del, Delta and Monroe Central rounded out the top five.

Kevin Garringer was first for the Falcons at 106 pounds, while Grant Gough (170) and Logan Williams (285) both placed second as individuals. Gavin Cox (126) and Dustyn Hangen (195) both took third place, and Sabastian Thompson (113) and Angel Rascon (132) were fourth.

Freshman basketball: Richmond White wins

Richmond White defeated Upper Arlington 41-27 on Saturday behind 11 points by Michi Davis.

Richmond White also stopped Lafayette Jeff 59-17 on Friday with Tommy Luce scoring 10 points and Kyle Ringer nine.
