* Thomasson, McCracken named All-Ohio: Newark senior Anni Thomasson continues to pile up the honors. She recently was named to the Division I All-Ohio first team.
Thomasson also was one of eight selected to the first team in 2011. She was an All-Ohio honorable mention selection as a freshman and sophomore.
Thomasson was named Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio player of the year four straight seasons, and she also was the district player of the year for the second consecutive season.
Newark Catholic senior Courtney McCracken was named to the Division IV All-Ohio second team. NC has had at least one All-Ohio honoree every year since 2000.
McCracken led the Green Wave to the Mid-State League-Ohio Division title and their second consecutive district title. She was the MSL-Ohio and district player of the year.
* Newark 5, North Royalton 3: Chase Cherubini scored twice and added an assist in the Generals’ nonleague victory at the Ohio Expo Center.
Other scorers were Gabe Parini, Drew Stewart and Jake Hoffmann.
Charles Smart had 15 saves for Newark (3-0), which hosts Hilliard at 8 p.m. Thursday.
* Pickering records ace: Tim Pickering made his second hole-in-one Sunday at Moundbuilders Country Club. Pickering used a gap wedge on the 111-yard No. 13. It was during a round of 76.
