Area sports roundup: Annandale girls cross country finishes 1st at Litchfield

LITCHFIELD – The Annandale girls cross country team was led to a first-place finish by Courtney Alama at the Litchfield cross country invite Thursday afternoon.

Alama bested the field with a time of 15 minutes, 10 seconds. Annandale took first with 42 points and Albany was second with 78. Sam Sunstrom of Sauk Rapids ran a 15:25 to take third place.

Isaiah Barlow of Hutchinson won the boys race (16:08) and Seth Hare of Albany was third (16:37).

The Albany boys took third place with 94 points behind Orono (34) and Hutchinson (42).

PERHAM INVITE

PERHAM – The Little Falls girls took third place with 93 points while the boys were fourth with 117.

The Moorhead girls won with 22 points and the Perham boys won with 17.

Moorhead’s Taylor Jassen won the girls race with a time of 15 minutes, 14.3 seconds. Mattia Hendrickson led the Flyers with a fifth-place finish (15:41.3). Little Falls’ Chelsea Rutz was eighth (15:58.2).

Little Falls’ Mathew Massmann was 13th to lead the Flyers’ boys team with a time of 17 minutes, 17 seconds. Perham’s Keeghan Hurley won the boys race (16:00.2).

PIERZ 6, MORA 1

PIERZ – The fourth-seeded Pioneers beat the fifth-seeded Mustangs in the first round of the South Sub-Section 7A team playoffs.

Pierz will play No. 1 Foley on Monday.

Tarynn Kasper, Kiah Marschel and Kelsey Moulzolf all won in singles for the Pioneers (8-11) while Pierz won all three doubles matches.

LITCHFIELD 0

ANNANDALE – The Cardinals moved on in the Sub-Section 5A team playoffs with the shutout win.

Annandale advances to play St. Cloud Cathedral Monday morning at St. John’s. Providence Academy downed B-B-E 5-2 in the other Sub-Section team match.
