Braden Phillips threw for 211 yards and accounted for five touchdowns and the Baker Bulldogs put away any thoughts of a close game with a big fourth quarter as they defeated North Bend 52-22 to win the OSAA Class 4A state championship.
Baker advanced to the state championship game after surviving a triple-overtime semifinal thriller Nov. 24 against Cascade. The Bulldogs prevailed in that game 35-29.
On Saturday, Phillips threw for three scores and added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Dane Bachman caught seven balls for 163 yards and was on the receiving end of each of Phillips’ scoring passes.
Ben Baxter rushed for 69 yards and Trent Taylor ran for 63 yards and two touchdowns for Baker.
Sheldon 35, Jesuit 28: Taylor Alie threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Irish to the state championship game with the win against the Crusaders.
Sheldon held on for the win despite 317 combined rushing yards from Jesuit’s AJ Glass and Chase Morrison. Glass ran for 187 yards and two scores, while Morrison added 130.
Sheldon will face Lake Oswego on Dec. 8 at Jeld-Wen Field.
Lake Oswego 42, Tigard 21: The Lakers scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to put away the Tigers in a semifinal victory.
Justen Ruppe threw for 194 yards and a pair of touchdown for Lake Oswego, which will face Sheldon in the state championship game Dec. 8.
Oakland 50, Portland Christian 27: David Hentry rushed for 263 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Oakers past the Royals for the Class 2A state championship.
Steven Mumford threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns for Portland Christian in the loss.
