It was a tough doubleheader for the Campbellsport baseball team, which lost 9-7 and 7-5 to Plymouth on Thursday in Campbellsport.
The second game was stopped due to darkness after six innings. The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the inning to make it close. Tim Whitty hit a double to score Dustin Salter and after a Cole Sippel single, James Hughes had a base hit to drive in Whitty. After runners moved to second and third, the next batter though hit a hard groundball right at the shortstop to end the threat.
Whitty took the loss in the first game and Jordan Dreikosen suffered the loss in game two. He only allowed four hits, but seven walks were a problem.
“We were right there. We’re playing better, but we’re not quite getting over the hump,” Campbellsport coach Jerry Raether said. “We’re not doing the small things that when you add them make a big difference.
Whitty and Sippel both had two hits in the opener. They joined Salter and Nate Stahl in recording two hits apiece in game two.
Campbellsport hosts Pewaukee today at Marian University’s Herr-Baker Field.
Sheboygan Falls 12, New Holstein 5
The middle innings proved to be the New Holstein baseball team’s undoing in a 12-5 home EWC loss to Sheboygan Falls on Thursday.
New Holstein took a 2-1 lead in the second with runs scoring on a Jason Brandt RBI single and a fielding error. Errors led to two more Huskies runs in the third.
But the Falcons scored five runs in the fourth and four in the sixth. Cole Heili was 3-for-3 for Sheboygan Falls (17-2, 11-2) and Brady Schmitz was 2-for-4 for New Holstein (5-15, 4-11).
