Third-ranked Beal City will play in its first volleyball state championship match today after it defeated second-ranked Mendon 3-1 in the Class D semifinals at Kellogg Arena on Friday.
The Aggies (45-10-1) will face top-ranked and six-time defending state champion St. Philip (72-2-1) in today’s title match.
Beal City was led by Addie Schumacher with 13 kills and eight digs. Jade Kennedy had 29 assists and 14 digs and Melanie Schafer had 25 digs and three aces.
For Mendon (48-7-1), Brooke Howard had 14 kills and 11 digs; Amanda Lovell had 11 kills and 21 digs; Jackie Friel had 14 digs and four aces; Loryn Baughman had 35 assists and Jordan VanOss had 12 digs .
Temperance Bedford 3, Grand Haven 1: Temperance Bedford defeated No. 8 Grand Haven 25-20, 25-13, 18-25 and 25-23.
The Kicking Mules (65-12-3) will go for their first state championship since 2005 when they face the winner of Macomb Dakota/Northville in today’s final at 2 p.m.
Temperance Bedford was led by MacKenzie Andrews with 47 assists and seven digs; Taylor Foster had 13 kills; Kayla Gwozdz had 12 kills; Nicole Rightnowar had nine kills, nine digs and three blocks; Ellen Hays had 21 digs .
Grand Haven (44-17-1) was led by Abby Cole with 20 kills, four digs and four aces. Taylor Craymer had nine killsand nine digs; and Jami Hogeboom had 40 assists and 10 digs.
Macomb Dakota 3, Northville 0: Third-ranked Macomb Dakota advanced with a 25-21, 26-24, 25-13 win over honorable mention Northville.
The Cougars (58-5) will face Temperance Bedford in Saturday’s 2 p.m. final. Dakota was led by Carli Snyder with 19 kills and 10 digs. Megan Downey had nine kills and 11 digs and Megan Manuerski had 36 assists.
Northville (49-4-4) was led by Symone Abbott with 15 kills and Rebecca Martin with 27 assists.
