Entering the locker room at halftime, the undefeated Oshkosh North girls basketball team found itself in a tussle with Neenah.
Exiting the locker room at halftime, the Spartans made sure that changed quickly.
North hit Neenah with a 22-4 run in the third quarter and rolled to a 50-25 win over the Rockets in a Fox Valley Association contest on Tuesday night.
“We picked up the defensive intensity and the kids responded,” North coach Rachel Biertzer said. “We came out in the second half and made a nice run. We were getting a lot of steals and the shots were really falling.”
Michaela Welsh had all six of her points in the third quarter for North (5-0, 5-0), while Brooklyn Schamens and Kiaya Adams each added five to spark the outburst.
The Spartans then sealed the win by holding the Rockets (1-5, 1-4) to just five points in the fourth quarter.
Schamens finished with 12 points to lead a balanced attack for the Spartans, who had eight 3-pointers made by six different players in the game.
“Losing is contagious and we’ve been on that end of it, but winning is contagious as well,” Biertzer said. “I think confidence is a contagious thing, too, and having success helps that. We’re playing well and playing together right now.
