A Murfreesboro-based junior tennis squad won the USTA team state championship over the weekend.

The team, nicknamed Boro Green, won the 18-under intermediate crown. It consists of former and current players from Riverdale, Siegel and Central Magnet. They include Paul Montgomery, Jesse Boles, Mason Grear, Marissa Kovach, Ragen White and Taylor Nelson.

Rachel Walker, from Mt. Juliet Christian Academy, is also on the squad. Former MTSU coach Dale Short is the coach of Boro Green.

Boro Green took the state title at the Junior Team Tennis tournament – which included multiple age divisions played at Old Fort Park and MTSU. Teams from Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and other areas traveled to Murfreesboro for the tournament.

Boro Green will represent Tennessee in the 2012 USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis Section Championships played in Auburn, Ala., on Aug. 17-19.

The Murfreesboro Tennis Association sponsored 15 local teams in the weekend USTA tournament from its Junior Team Tennis summer league – which includes 190 Rutherford County junior players.
