Bossier’s relentless ground game and a blocked punt proved to be too much for visiting Northwood Friday night at Bossier’s Memorial Stadium as the Bearkats took the non-district matchup 35-27.
Bossier quarterback Sam Dudley scored on a 27-yard scamper late in the third quarter to tie the game 21-21.
After the Bearkats held the Falcons, who entered the game undefeated at 4-0, on the ensuing possession, Rodney Bonds came right up the middle to block the Northwood punt. Bonds then scooped the ball up and ran it in from the 20 for Bossier’s first lead of the night at 28-21.
Northwood’s Raysean Brooks returned the kickoff 42 yards to give the Falcons good field position at Bossier’s 45. Falcon quarterback Jerrick Peterson ran 20 yards on a third-and-3 to the Bossier 18. Palmo Smith went in from 8 yards out on second down but the extra point kick was no good and Bossier’s lead was cut to one, 28-27.
From there Bossier ran 22 plays to Northwood’s five over the next nine minutes. The Bearkats used an 11 play drive and scored on a 18-yard Dudley run with 1:23 left for the final points of the night and a 35-27 advantage. Jaquarious Tutt had 56 of Bossier’s 89 yards, all on the ground, in the drive and finished the night with 58 yards.
Dudley finished with 124 yards on 18 carries to lead Bossier which improved to 2-3 on the season.
Northwood’s Peterson finished the night hitting on 13 of 32 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Falcons in rushing with 69 yards on 15 carries. Peterson hit Martavious Washington for a 56-yard touchdown and Trey Walker from 15 yards for Northwood’s two scores in the first half.
Washington was the leading receiver on the night with five catches for 119 yards and Angelo Robert caught four passes for 65 yards and also ran for 30 yards on six carries.
Bossier’s two first half scores came on a 1-yard run by Darius Leary and Dudley’s only pass completion, a 9-yard strike to Tutt.
Bossier is on the road next Friday at Block. Northwood opens District 1-4A play when it plays Woodlawn at Lee Hedges Stadium on Thursday night.
