Harper Creek, keeping up with the high-energy and fast-paced Covert Bulldogs, was able to sprint its way to a 91-80 victory on Tuesday in in non-conference boys’ basketball action at Harper Creek High School.

“We got out and ran tonight which is what we had been looking to do. It all started on the defensive end, forcing jump shots, rebounding, and then getting out and running,” said Harper Creek head coach Matt Bowling.
The Beavers used a 15-4 run in the first quarter and outscored Covert 33-21 in the second quarter, helping gain a 50-33 lead at halftime.
“I thought we got better tonight in a lot of aspects, especially the first half and mostly the third quarter,” said Bowling. “I thought we played the way we were capable of playing. We did some good things tonight.”
Covert mustered a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late for the Bulldogs.
Josh Bass of Harper Creek led all scorers with 23 points, going 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Trevor Johnson and Alec Fisher added 15 points and 13 points, respectively for the Beavers. The team shot 22-of-30 collectively from the free throw line.
Keon Smith led Covert with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Christopher Gaines and Lajuane Marshall both added 16 points. The Bulldogs shot 8-of-17 from the free throw line.
