Shane Meek earned medalist honors at 37 at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course as Port Clinton topped Margaretta 155-172 in the Sandusky Bay Conference on Tuesday.
“I was putting really well,” Meek said. “I made two pretty big birdies after a few bogeys from chipping errors. My ball-striking was there.”
Meek worked with his father Brad and had 15 putts.
“He wants me to work on the pendulum motion putting, and be fluid and smooth,” Meek said. “On my first birdie, I’d hit a bad shot on the last hole. I hit my second shot to the green and had a 25-footer. I expected a par, but read it well and it took a few more rolls and fell in.
“It’s nice to get a low score heading to the SBC Tournament (on Saturday). We need to place high to win the SBC (for the second straight season). To get some momentum going and break 80 at Maumee would be fantastic.”
Joey Kurtz and Jason Mueller each shot a 39 while Sean Black added a 40 for the Redskins. Clyde moved into a first-place tie with Port Clinton after a victory over Edison.
“I am really proud of the way our kids bounced back (Tuesday) after not playing so well (Monday in a loss to the Chargers),” Redskins coach Rick Dominick said. “Shane was outstanding and it’s the first time all year we have had all six players under 50.”
