Brunswick: Fourth teen dies from crash injuries

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP — A fourth Brunswick teenager has died of injuries suffered in a weekend car crash. The family of Kevin Fox, 18, announced his death Monday morning.

The family issued a statement saying, “We are grateful for the overwhelming support that the Northeast Ohio community has given our family during this difficult time.”

Kevin was in a car with four other teens when the driver lost control early Sunday morning after the car went airborne while crossing railroad tracks on Boston Road in Columbia Township. Troopers say the driver over-corrected when the car landed and the car went off the road,  hit a tree and landed on its roof.

Kevin was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver, Jeffrey Chaya, 18, died along with passengers Blake Bartchak, 17, and Lexi Poerner, 16, all of Brunswick.

Both Kevin Fox and Jeffrey Chaya were to graduate later Sunday from Brunswick High School.

A fifth teen, Julia Romito, 17, of Brunswick, was transported to Southwest General Heath Center. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Troopers are investiating the crash.  They say excessive speed played a role.
