Central Magnet junior Abbey Burgdorf has one TSSAA Class A/AA state golf tournament under her belt.

Brooklyn Snell, an Eagleville junior, will be a rookie in the state tournament that tees off today.

However, she’ll be able to watch from Burgdorf when the two Rutherford County golfers tee off today in the state tournament at WillowBrook Golf Course. The two golfers are in the same 9:40 p.m. tee time. The state tournament is a 36-hole event that concludes Wednesday.

“It’s good to be there with a friend,” Snell said. “I think it will help.”

Burgdorf shot 84 in the Region 4-A/AA tournament to qualify for the state tournament as an individual. Snell shot 85 in the Region 6-A/AA tournament to reach the tourney as an individual. No other area golfer qualified for the state tournament.

Burgdorf shot a two-day 184 in the state tournament in 2011 as a sophomore. She said playing at state a year ago may help her this year.

“It means a lot to me to get back here,” Burgdorf said. “I worked really hard to get back here again. I learned I needed to relax more and just play how I know how to play golf when you get to the state tournament.”

Burgdorf said she likes the WillowBrook course and hopes her improved game will help her in the tournament.

“I’m driving it longer and my putting is much better from a year ago,” she said. “I’ve improved my whole game.”

Snell is the second Eagleville female golfer to reach the state tournament. Former teammate Lindsey McRee reached back-to-back state tournaments in 2010 and 2011. Snell is coached by her mom Jennifer Snell.

“I like her being my coach because she’s always on me to go to the golf course,” Brooklyn Snell said.
