Central Magnet golfer Abbey Burgdorf shot an 88 on Wednesday to finish tied for 17th in the TSSAA Class A/AA state tournament held at WillowBrook Golf Course in Manchester.
Burgdorf, a junior and two-time state tournament qualifier, entered the final round tied for 10th after an opening round of 85.
Eagleville junior Brooklyn Snell shot 92 in her second round. However, the first-time state qualifier shaved off 15 strokes off her first-round score to finish with a two-day total of 199.
Macon County’s boys won the Class A/AA team title with a two-day total of 619, five shots better than Alcoa. It marked the first state title in any sport for the Lafayette school. Madison Academic’s Sydney Chung won the individual boys title with a 146 after shoot 1-under on Wednesday.
Signal Mountain came from behind to beat Macon County by six strokes. Signal Mountain has won four straight titles. CAK’s Sophia Schubert won the girls title, leading the entire tournament. Schubert shot 75 on Wednesday and 146 for the entire tournament. Schubert won the tournament by 15 strokes.
