THE WINNER: Su’a Cravens
School: Vista Murrieta (Murietta, Calif.)
Position: Safety, wide receiver and running back
Weight: 210 pounds
Athletic achievement: He has led the Broncos to a 13-0 record and a berth in the CIF North Coast Section Division I final against Centennial (Corona, Calif.), scheduled for Nov. 30. Cravens compiled 84 total tackles (43 assisted, 41 solo) with four sacks, three interceptions and two punt blocks through 13 games. A 2013 U.S. Army All-American Game selection, Cravens has also caught 20 passes for 325 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing 168 yards on 15 carries for five scores.
Academic excellence: Cravens has maintained a 3.40 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and as a youth football coach.
“Su’a Cravens is the best high school football player I have seen since Reggie Bush,” said Justin Schaeffer, head coach at Murrieta Mesa (Murietta, Calif.). “There just aren’t that many players with the ability to affect a high school football game the way he can.”
THE FUTURE: Cravens has verbally committed to play football on an athletic scholarship at the University of Southern California beginning in the fall of 2013.
