Eamon Smart rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns as the Seahawks (2-2) won their District 5A-11 opener.
Friday’s rain played a major role in the game, which started 25 minutes late. Cape Coral fumbled nine times, losing six, while Cypress Lake (0-4, 0-1) lost four of its seven fumbles.
Smart scored on runs of 28, 2 and 79 yards. He ran the ball 20 times before a leg cramp cut his night short.
Rashaan Gaymon scored on a 1-yard run and Eddie Sommers kicked a 36-yard field goal for the Seahawks. Sommers made three of his four extra-point attempts.
Cape’s defense held Cypress Lake to 90 yards total offense, with 44 of those on a pass from Richie Lachaelle to Larry Rogers. Two of Cypress’ seven first downs came on roughing the punter penalties.
The Seahawks have a week off before playing Estero, while the Panthers are home Friday against Bradenton Bayshore.
