The Fond du Lac High School doubles tennis team of Emily Nett and Erin Cole won its first match on Thursday at the WIAA Division 1 State Tennis Tournament in Madison.
The pair of seniors improved to 14-9 on the season after a 6-0, 7-5 victory on Thursday over Maggie Douglas and Emily Thiel of Madison East. Douglas and Thiel finish their season at 5-7 together.
Next up for Nett and Cole is a seeded team from Brookfield Central. Ali Bublitz, a junior, and Annie Porritt, a sophomore, are 27-2. That match will be Friday morning.
Fondy sophomore Nicole Feltz was also qualified for Thursday’s first day at State. Feltz lost in two sets, 6-4, 6-3 to Sheboygan North’s Lindsey Gosse. Gosse, a junior improved to 17-7 with the win, while Feltz finished with a 31-2 record.
