Battle Creek Central’s Ni Ceu netted two goals to lift the Bearcats over Niles, 2-1, in the consolation round of the SMAC Silver Boys’ Soccer Tournament on Thursday.

Humberto Martinez had Luis Hernandez each had an assist for the Bearcats (9-7, 4-4 SMAC) while Hexxon Villa made 15 saves in goal. Battle Creek Central will face the winner of Marshall/Gull Lake on Tuesday for 13th place in the tournament.

K-Zoo Home School 5, (At) Harper Creek 2: Harper Creek’s Tyler Bassler and Jake Andrews each scored in the SMAC Silver semifinal loss, while Noah Eckert made two saves.

(At) Lakeview 4, K-Zoo Central 2: Lakeview’s Christian Elliott scored two goals, while Parker Beuker and Sam Lal also scored in the SMAC Gold consolation win. Austin Anderson, Matt Garland and Jaden Sebring each had an assist for the Spartans, while Jake Herbers made six saves in goal.

(At) Coldwater 4, Sturgis 1: Coldwater’s Yousif Aljabaly had two goals and one assist. Nooh Aljabaly had a goal and an assist, and Salah Mousa had a goal. Ian Wright made eight saves for the Cardinals (12-3, 7-2 SMAC), who will play Lakeview for fifth place on Tuesday.

(At) Delton Kellogg 3, Comstock 0: Delton Kellogg’s Logan Hansen, Mark Ordway and Brandon Robbins each scored in the non-conference victory for the Panthers (5-9-1).

VOLLEYBALL

Colon tri-meet: Union City went 2-0 with wins over Colon (25-10, 25-10) and Climax-Scotts (25-20, 25-10). The Chargers (16-11-2) were led by Brooke Johnson with 20 kills, 13 blocks, three digs and two aces; Jasmine McIntosh had 31 assists, 19 digs and four aces; and Martha Merchant had 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks.

Jackson Christian 4, Bellevue 2: Jackson Christian won both matches of the dual by scores of 19-25, 25-22, 15-6 and 14-25, 25-22, 15-3. Bellevue was led by Briteny Reid with 17 blocks, 15 kills and seven aces; Lexy Spaulding had 13 kills; Allicea Morino had four kills and 26 assists; and Taylor Wagner had five kills, 32 assists and six aces.

CROSS COUNTRY

SCAA Jamboree (Wed.): Hillsdale Academy won the boys’ race at Leila Arboretum with a team score of 54. Colon was fourth with 120; St. Philip sixth with 122; Climax-Scotts seventh with 159; Tekonsha eighth with 163; Bellevue 10th with 182; and Marshall Academy 11th with 198.

Colon’s top finishers were Harley Thompson (ninth, 18:49), Kyle Poortenga (11th, 19:14), Jonathan Stewart (33rd, 22:17), Larry Peppers (36th, 22:28) and Ben Weaver (42nd, 23:39).

St. Philip’s scorers were Nicholas Newton (13th, 19:28), Andres Campos (17th, 20:09), William Lantinga (26th, 21:07), Ethan Rutherford (34th, 22:18) and Daniel Yates (41st, 23:28).

Climax-Scotts’ top runners were Eldon Ulsh (10th, 19:13) and Isaac Swager (27th, 21:19).

Tekonsha’s Joseph Newcomb was the overall winner of the race, finishing in 17:15.

Bellevue’s top finishers were Brad Smith (31st, 21:47), Chase Maxson (37th, 22:33) and Garrett Hall (45th, 24:08).

Marshall Academy’s top runner was Jacob Kempinski (35th, 22:19).

In the girls’ race, Pittsford won with a score of 31. Colon with third with 95; Bellevue was sixth with 125; Marshall Academy was eighth with 130 and St. Philip was ninth with 134.

Colon’s scorers were Skyler Harvey (fifth, 22:26), Anessa Broker (10th, 23:09) and Brianne Reichert (26th, 27:15).

Bellevue was led by Jadie Hart (16th, 24:17) and Emily Rice (25th, 26:18).

Marshall Academy’s scorers were Sofiya Stumpos (20th, 24:39) and Reagan Cool (29th, 28:30).

St. Philip’s top runners were Abriana Burrill (24th, 26:06) and Amanda Yacovoni (31st, 33:59).
