Chenango Forks’ Kyle Kelly and Jacob Green made sure their Madison Square Garden debuts were most memorable.
Both captured individual wrestling titles Sunday at the Garden in the PSAL Holiday Tournament, part of a fine showing by the Blue Devils in the 37-team event.
Kelly, a two-time state champion, remained unbeaten as he defeated Brooklyn International’s Cheick Nidiyae, 6-1, in the final of the 106-pound weight class.
Green captured the 126 title, doing so in dramatic fashion with a 4-2 decision over Grand Street’s Keanu Thompson. Green trailed 2-0 late in the third period before a reversal and two-point near fall in the waning moments of the match gave him the victory.
Forks, which finished fifth with 121.5 points while Long Branch (N.J.) won with 251 points, had four other place-winners.
Carl Rouse was runner-up at 132, losing by fall to New Utrecht’s Saidyokub Kahramond in 3:36 of their title match. Isaiah Zimmer was third at 170, Allen Michael-Rios was sixth at 220 and Seron Mullings was eighth at 195.
On Saturday, Mary Vilella won the 113 title in the girls division with a pin of Francis’s Teresa Maloc in 2:22.
The two-day tournament had begun Saturday at Harry S. Truman High School in Bronx, with all matches for places 1-8 taking place Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
